Contrabando Movie Set Faces Destruction

The Contrabando movie set, often referred to as a “ghost town,” on the Rio Grande in West Texas is a part of Texas pop culture that also could be a thing of the past.

According to the Big Bend Sentinel, Big Bend Ranch State Park is making plans to remove some of the set’s structures, citing safety hazards.

The local newspaper reported park representatives presented arguments in support of demolishing the set at a Presidio City Council meeting last week.

“Only the ‘cantina’ and the composting toilet would remain,” David Long,  the superintendent of the Barton Warnock Visitors Center at the park told the Sentinel, because they are the only “built to last” structures.
